Enrolling in SSI Marine Ecology classes not only enhances your diving experience but also arms you with the knowledge needed to contribute to the conservation and understanding of our oceans. The various ecology courses are:
- Coral Identification
- Fish Identification
- Shark Ecology
- Sea Turtle Ecology
- Ray and Manta Ecology
- Nudibranch Ecology
- Marine Mammal Ecology
- Invertibrates Ecology
What You’ll Learn:
- Different marine habitats, including coral reefs, kelp forests, and temperate & tropical environments.
- The roles and interactions of various marine organisms within these ecosystems.
- Key characteristics and identification techniques.
- The basic principles of biology, including food webs, energy flow, and population dynamics.
- The biological classification and evolutionary history of the different underwater creatures.
- Human impacts on marine environments and conservation efforts.
Prerequisite:
- You must be at least 10 years old.
- Be an Open Water Diver or equivalent.
What Do I Need to Bring:
- There is one classroom session per ecology course.
Where:
- The classroom sessions will be held at Ski/Scuba Center.
- Total Duration of class is one evening.
Training Materials:
Upon making a deposit for this program, you will have access to your digital training program on your MYSSI App or when you log in at www.divessi.com. You must complete all quizzes with a score of 100% before you arrive for class. There will be a multiple-choice exam at the end of the classroom portion. You must pass the final exam with a score of 80% or higher.
Training Dives:
- There are no training dives required for these courses.
Schedule:
- Each course is a 1-night session: 6:00 – 10:00pm
- In some instances, we cover 2 courses in one evening
Class Fees:
- Total cost for each ecology the class is $80.00 (bundle pricing is available).
