SSI Advanced Specialty Diver is the next recognition rating on the path to becoming an SSI Master Diver and includes four SSI Specialty programs. After completing the four SSI Specialty programs, as well as 24 logged dives, you will automatically receive the SSI Advanced Specialty Open Water Diver recognition rating, along with your SSI Specialty program certifications.
Course content includes in-depth training in the following four specialties
- Perfect Buoyancy – The SSI Perfect Buoyancy program teaches you the skills and techniques needed to maximize your dive experience, increase your comfort in the water, and get the most from your equipment. You will earn the SSI Perfect Buoyancy Specialty certification.
- Navigation – This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably navigate underwater during a dive. You will learn how to use a compass and natural navigation techniques, estimate distance, basic navigation patterns and how to leave and return to a designated point. You will earn the SSI Navigation Specialty certification after completing this program.
- Night Diving/Limited Visibility – This program provides the skills and concepts required to safely and comfortably dive at night or in limited visibility conditions. Some of the ocean’s most amazing creatures only come out at night, so your dive doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down. You will learn how to enter and exit the water, use specialized equipment, and how to communicate and dive with a buddy at night or in limited visibility. You will earn the SSI Night Diving and Limited Visibility Specialty certification after completing this program.
- Search and Recovery – In this fascinating program, you will learn all the skills you need to safely and confidently conduct search and recovery dives. You will be taught how to use search patterns, specialized dive plans and equipment such as lift bags, lines and reels. By developing your search and communication techniques and practicing searches in a dive team, you will become a confident search and recovery diver in no time. Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Search & Recovery specialty certification.
