Master Safety and Response: The SSI Stress and Rescue Class
In the underwater world, safety and preparedness are paramount. Whether you’re a recreational diver or a seasoned pro, understanding how to manage and respond to stress and emergencies can make all the difference in ensuring a safe diving experience. The SSI (Scuba Schools International) Stress and Rescue class equips divers with the essential skills and knowledge needed to recognize and respond to emergency situations, making you a more responsible and prepared diver. The program is about avoiding, recognizing and solving problems on the surface and underwater.
The SSI Stress and Rescue class is designed to teach divers how to handle stress and emergencies while diving. This comprehensive course covers the signs of stress in divers, strategies for preventing stress-related incidents, and effective rescue techniques. It blends classroom learning with practical exercises, ensuring that you’re ready to face any challenging situation with confidence.
The course runs four days in which you will participate in academic and in-water sessions in the pool and in open water. As a prerequisite for certification, you need to have a valid CPR, First Aid & Oxygen Provider certificate. (Can be added into the Stress and Rescue course if needed. Additional fees apply)
Course content includes in-depth training in:
- What Is Stress?
- Stress In Diving: Causes And Prevention
- Detecting And Dealing with Stress
- Accident Management
- Skills Needed to Deal with Panic and Rescues
- Conditions that Complicate Rescues
As well as:
1. Recognizing Stress: Learn how to identify signs of stress in yourself and others. Understanding the psychological and physiological effects of stress is crucial for maintaining a safe diving environment.
2. Preventative Measures: Explore strategies to avoid stress and emergencies in the first place. This includes effective dive planning, communication with your dive buddy, and understanding the dive environment.
4. Assisting Others: Develop your ability to assist other divers in distress. You will learn how to safely approach a stressed diver, provide support, and execute rescue techniques when needed.
5. Emergency Response Protocols: Familiarize yourself with emergency response procedures, including how to perform controlled ascents, use surface signaling devices, and administer first aid if necessary.
Prerequisites:
- Referral diver equivalent or higher
- Minimum age: 12 years old
- Must be physically capable of completing the required skills
What to bring:
- Full scuba kit
- If you do not own your own equipment, you may rent it for this class
Where:
- The classroom and pool sessions are held at Ski/Scuba Center.
- Open Water Training dives take place at a local quarry.
Training Materials:
- Upon making a deposit for this program, you will receive an email with a link to your digital training programs (all 4 specialties). You must complete all quizzes with a score of 100% before you arrive for class. There will be a multiple-choice exam at the end of the classroom portion. You must pass the final exam with a score of 80% or higher.
Training Dives:
- To complete your certification, you will need to complete a minimum of 3 training dives completed in 1 day.
Schedule/Duration:
- ~4-5 hours of online material review
- One evening (6pm-10pm) of classroom instruction
- One evening (6pm-10pm) of pool session
- One day (9am~3pm) of open water quarry dives
