OPEN WATER DIVER

June 14th, 16th, 21st, & 23rd.

6:00pm – 10:00pm

Becoming an SSI Open Water Diver is the best way to start your scuba adventure due to worldwide recognition!

With personalized training and taking enough time, we make sure you are truly comfortable under water with the skills and equipment you will use. In general, an Open Water Diver course consists of 3 parts:Academics, Pool Training and Open Water Sessions.

ACADEMICS:

The SSI Training Materials are designed so that you can gain the required knowledge in an efficient manner.  Review material, and learn the fundamentals of diving with our training staff.

POOL TRAINING:

For your pool and open water training your instructor will fit you to your scuba equipment so you will become comfortable in your “second skin”.

OPEN WATER SESSIONS:

You will complete at least 4 open water dives and have the chance to experience everything you learned in the pool hands-on. After successful completion of your open water training dives you will become a Certified Diver. The SSI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide so your diving experiences will be limitless.

What to Expect:

Night One & Two

The first two nights start with an introduction to the academics of diving. Learn basic principles, examine types of diving gear, and begin to learn how water pressure and the under water world affects your body.  Next, we begin practical application in the pool.  Learning proper snorkel techniques, and then learning how to put together and wear our SCUBA equipment, students will get their first experience breathing underwater.

Night Three & Four

Nights three and four are where training starts with the second half of book study.  Learn how to make and use dive charts, determine the proper amount of bottom time allowed at different depths.  A final review is conducted and a written exam is taken. Students practice more advanced underwater techniques in our heated pool.  Learn how clear your mask underwater, provide air to your buddy, and learn some basic rescue techniques.

What to Bring

Students taking this course should bring the following items with them to training.

  • SSI Training Manual and study materials received during registration
  • Bathing suit for pool training and a towel

Training Dives

At the conclusion of Classroom training, each student will be required to make 6 open water dives. These are scheduled at a different time and are conducted in a local quarry.
