OPEN WATER DIVER
Becoming an SSI Open Water Diver is the best way to start your scuba adventure due to worldwide recognition!
With personalized training and taking enough time, we make sure you are truly comfortable under water with the skills and equipment you will use. In general, an Open Water Diver course consists of 3 parts: Academics, Confined Water (Pool) Training and Open Water Sessions.
The SSI Training Materials are designed so that you can gain the required knowledge in an efficient manner. Review material, and learn the fundamentals of diving with our training staff. A lunch break will be given each day.
For your pool and open water training your instructor will fit you to your scuba equipment so you will become comfortable in your “second skin”.
OPEN WATER SESSIONS:
You will complete at least 4 open water dives and have the chance to experience everything you learned in the pool hands-on. After successful completion of your open water training dives you will become a Certified Diver. The SSI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide so your diving experiences will be limitless.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Day One - Starts with an introduction to the academics of diving. Learn basic principles, examine types of diving gear, and begin to learn how water pressure and the under water world affects your body. After a lunch break, we begin practical application in the pool. First is the Student Water Fitness Evaluation consisting of a 200m swim and a 10 minute tread. Next is learning proper snorkel techniques, and then on to learning how to put together and use SCUBA equipment. Students will get their first experience breathing underwater on day 1.
Day Two - Academic training continues with the remaining course chapters. A final review is conducted and a multiple choice exam is taken. In the afternoon, students practice more advanced underwater techniques in the pool including how to clear your mask underwater, provide air to your buddy and learn some basic rescue techniques.
What to Bring - Students taking this course should bring the following items with them to training:
- Notepad, Pen, Pencil for notes
- Bathing suit and a towel for pool training
Open Water Dives - At the conclusion of Classroom training, each student will be required to make 4 open water dives and one snorkel.
